4GB RAM on 32-bit Windows XP/2003

I recently purchased 2x HP DL360 with dual Quad core and 4GB of ram. For some reason it only shows 3.24 GB

After some google, i found that it's the limitation on 32-bit processor. By adding the /PAE to the C:\boot.ini (hidden) solve the problem.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Standard" /noexecute=optout /fastdetect /PAE

    yo dude... last day i stumbled upon you blog from lyn and read about this article as well.

    and coincidentally, today my client asked me about the same thing, 4GB RAM.

    Mind if I ask you, is this thing apply to Win XP SP2 as well?

    azri: yup i'm well aware of that, in fact i do not see any performance difference even with benchmark software which shows the xtra 0.5GB of RAM is of any better. It's more to for the sake of having it Smile

    Forgot to tell you. If you have graphic card with 512mb for example. To put it simplest way of saying this, 4gb - 512mb = 3.5gb will only shows up. Try using 64bit OS such as Vista Home Premium 64bit. One thing to understand is that when you use a 32bit OS, all running programs will show less uses of the ram. Compare that to a 64bit OS you will be surprise how much the ram is being use.
